Across the Wire
I was once told that China encompasses everything that can be found elsewhere in the world. The same could also be said to describe how nearly every household across the globe is home to at least one product from China.
I was interested to meet the people who assemble some of our everyday essential products. This led me to staying in a factory situated in Shilong, the smallest town of Guangdong province, China. The factory produces the steel springs that are used to hold batteries in place and sockets that support USB plugs when they are inserted into a computer. This project arose out of my curiosity to discover more about my Chinese heritage. Apart from reconnecting with my Chinese side, I gained an insight into the human presence behind ourmass-produced everyday products. This experience resulted in the following collection of images.
