‘The Great Forgetting‘

Eleanor Cleasby’s work documents “The Great Forgetting”, a term Adam Hochschild uses in his book King Leopold’s Ghost when referring to the conscious effort Belgium has made to cover up it’s colonial past. This work refers to King Leopold II's horrific exploitation of the Belgian Congo, and his legacy of buildings in Brussels which it financed. Eleanor Cleasby subverts the methods employed by museums and institution and questions the information they choose to show or hide.
